November 14, 2011…The Zambia Hockey Association (ZHA) is set to host the 2011 edition of the AfHF  Africa Cup for Club Champions Competition (ACCC).

The annual tournament, to be hosted at the , in Lusaka, Zambia will run from the 10th to the 17th of December 2011.

This will be the first international tournament for the sand-based hockey pitch which was commissioned in May 2010.  The pitch was built as a partnership between the Africa Hockey Federation (AfHF), International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in an effort to give the youth in Zambabwe a chance to engage in sports while learning the Olympic values.

November 12,  2011…Kenya Police are the new 2011 Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) men’s Premier League champions.The resilient Kenneth Kaunda’s charges ended the season well, braving a nervous last-minute showdown to beat a resurgent Nairobi Simba 2-1 in the decisive league match at City Park to clinch the title.

Police, one of the oldest clubs in the country, claimed the title, thanks to their better goal aggregate after outgoing champions Strathmore edged out stubborn United States International University (USIU-A) 1-0 earlier.

November 12, 2011…The title race for the Kenya Hockey Union premier league mens tropy came to a dramatic end saturday afternoon. The Kenya Police hockey team have won the title for the first time in history.

The police team had a 2 -1 win over Nairobi simba in a match played at 4pm at City Park Hockey stadium, Nairobi.  strathmore had played an earlier match at 2pm and earned a 1 – 0 win over university side usiu-a.

Going into the match,both teams had tied an all points (26 each) separated by goal difference. Police had enjoyed a 7 goal lead.

The Orange ladies hockey team has retained its title in the  KHU womens league for the 11th straight year. The Kenya Navyis also poised to lift the KHU Men’s National league trophy.

Love them or hate them, the Kenya Police is the hockey team of the moment.

Friends and foes alike believe if Kenneth Kaunda’s charges fail to lift the mens hockey premier league title this season, then it will take them long to win it.

Police showed skill, class and style as they crushed KCA-U (5-1) on Sunday to reclaim the KHU mens league from Strathmore University after almost 4 months.

Kenya Navy also left no doubt as to their desire for promotion to the top-league with a convising 6 – 1 thrashing of Parkalnds club to stretch their lead to 5 points on a total 19. Orange ladies also inched closer to their 13th successive title with a 5 -1 win over Vikings.

Italy based Lilian Kimeu notched a hat-trick for the Orange ladies.

Pressure is now on champions strathmore University Gladiators to prove their mantle with a mid-week clash against Nairobi Simba in the offing.

Police and Strathmore are tied on all accounts except goal difference, with Police having a 2 goal advantage. Each has 20 points fro 6 wins and 2 draws. Police have scored 29 and conceded 8 while Strathmore have scored 24 and conceded 5.

Strathmore is chasing its third successive title in only its 4th season in the senior league while Police is yet to win the title, having played second fiddle to Kenya Army then to Kisumu Simba.

This year, the trophy is theirs to loose.

Karate, Police, Navy register crucial wins in weekend hockey ties


May 9, 2011.. With the KHU national womens league taking a break, all eyes were on the mens league this past weekend with table-altering games on the cards.

The weekend’s big match pitted on-form Kenya Police and the KHU mens premier league title pretenders Greensharks in a match played at 4:00 pm at City Park, Nairobi. At stake was the league leadership as well as bragging rights, given that last time the two teams met the game ended in a draw.
