Strathmore out to regain top-slot in the KHU weekend action


June, 29, 2012 – Nairobi… It is another exciting weekend with big games comming up again in the Kenya Hockey Union mens premier league. Seasoned Greensharks hope to move back to the top four if they manage to sail past a determined KCA side on Sunday at 4pm at City Park Nairobi.

Also at the same venue, former champions Strathmore Gladiators plan to rise back to the top position in the league if they manage to get past USIU-A on Saturday at 6pm. A win would see Strathmore level on 12 points with leaders Nairobi Simba. Currently, Nairobi Simba have a +8 goal difference while Strathmore Gladiators have a +7 thus a win of 2 or more goals for strathmore would see them rise to teh number one slot.

Awin for the Madaraka-based students would see them shake off the pressure from champions Kenya Police. Police are currently level on points (9 points) with the students, with the Kenya Police hockey team having an inferior goal difference of +2.

Also on this weekend, defending KHU womens champions Orange ladies host Mombasa Sports Cluc (MSC) on Saturday 2pm at City Park, Nairobi. MSC face rising stars Vikings in an early Sunday morning (10am) encounter. Other matches sees last seasons relegated side Parkroad face-off against Kimathi University Titans. The Titans are riding on an excellent performance last weekend and hope to clinch the three points to place them firmly in the title race.

Mombasa Institute entertain Kenya Polytechnic at the costal city of Mombasa on saturday at 4pm, while JKUAT hope to punch one more hole in Wazalendo Youth’s ship on Sunday at 12:00pm. A second University derby sees Kenyatta University battle it out with University of Nairobi on Sunday 4 pm.

All matches are at City Park except the Mombasa Institute – Kenya Polytechnic match.
