Strathmore Gladiators storm into the 2011 Africa hockey cup finals

December 15th 2011… Davis wanangwe scored a brace against Niger Flickers in an electrifying semi-final match to send the strathmore Gladiators to the finals of the continental club hockey championship in Lusaka, Zambia.

The Gladiators won the match 4 – 1 to book a slot in the finals against 10 time champions and defending champions Sharkia from Egypt.

Strathmore’s Seth Oburu and Emmanuel Simiyu scored the other two goals for the university side.

Niger Flickers now face Kenya Police in the 3rd place play-off in what is set to be a repeat of the first match where Kenya Police lost 4  – 2 to the Nigerian side.

This is the Police team’s first major international tournament and a medal-bracket finish would serve as a morale booster for Keneth Kaundas charges.

Strathmore on the other hand has got many Kenya Hockey fans sitting at the edge of their seats. Meshak Senge’s boys made it to the play-offs and became the first university side to win the Kenya Hockey Union mens premier league title in only their second season in the league. The team has now made it to the finals of the 2011 Africa Club Cup Championship in only their second year.

Can they replicate their performance in the Africa scene against the 10-time champions of Africa?
