Marching Police on the verge of KHU men’s hockey crown

Love them or hate them, the Kenya Police is the hockey team of the moment.

Friends and foes alike believe if Kenneth Kaunda’s charges fail to lift the mens hockey premier league title this season, then it will take them long to win it.

Police showed skill, class and style as they crushed KCA-U (5-1) on Sunday to reclaim the KHU mens league from Strathmore University after almost 4 months.

Kenya Navy also left no doubt as to their desire for promotion to the top-league with a convising 6 – 1 thrashing of Parkalnds club to stretch their lead to 5 points on a total 19. Orange ladies also inched closer to their 13th successive title with a 5 -1 win over Vikings.

Italy based Lilian Kimeu notched a hat-trick for the Orange ladies.

Pressure is now on champions strathmore University Gladiators to prove their mantle with a mid-week clash against Nairobi Simba in the offing.

Police and Strathmore are tied on all accounts except goal difference, with Police having a 2 goal advantage. Each has 20 points fro 6 wins and 2 draws. Police have scored 29 and conceded 8 while Strathmore have scored 24 and conceded 5.

Strathmore is chasing its third successive title in only its 4th season in the senior league while Police is yet to win the title, having played second fiddle to Kenya Army then to Kisumu Simba.

This year, the trophy is theirs to loose.
