The Hockey Association of Zimbabwe, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the second Africa Olympic Qualifier (AOQ) under the umbrella of the African Hockey Federation has officially invited all National Associations to the AOQ.

The invite provided information on a wide variety of issue including accommodation, medical information, transport, practice and match officials.

July 28, 2011..The 2011 South African Sports Awards, presented by Sport and Recreation South Africa, has seen one of the nominations for SA Sportswoman of the Year going to the Investec South Africa women’s hockey team’s goalscoring world record breaker, Pietie Coetzee.

During the Champions Challenge international tournament in Dublin, Ireland last month, the 32-year-old superstar striker broke Russian Natella Krasnikova’s world record of 220 goals. Coetzee’s record now stands at an incredible 225 goals in 227 Test matches.  The awards ceremony takes place at Sun City on August 19 and 20.

The town’s Simba Hockey Club has produced some of Kenya’s finest players — including celebrated Olympians — since its launch in 1960s.

Winning the National League title five times to feature in the Africa Cup club championships is just one of Simba’s many achievements.

It is a success story characterised by focused leadership, good selection structures, determination and commitment through the first, second, third and current generation of players.

July 13, 2011.. The International Hockey Federation has released the July edition of the FIH Hockey Monthly show.

The monthly show allows hockey fans and players to enjoy some of the best hockey action around the world through the FIH’s You Tube channel.

This release shows action from the Wagener Stadium in Amsterdan during the Rabo FIH Champions Trophy, the ESB Electric Ireland FIH Champions Challenge I in Dublin, the tournament where South Africa legend Pietee Coetzee, who sealed her place in hockey history by becoming breaking the world goal-scoring record.

The show also covers action the Rabobank 4 Nations event, with The Netherlands, Germany, Pakistan and England all taking to the field.

Aura leads Navy to weekend wins as Nakuru shines

It looks as if nothing will halt debutants Kenya Navy’s charge for promotion to the KHU men’s hockey Premier League next season.

The Rashid Saidi-skippered Marines bolstered their campaign when they hauled six points from their tour of Nairobi to move to second place in the men’s National League with 13 points.

The fired-up Marines handed Nakuru Athletic their first defeat of the season, 3-2, on Saturday as Italy-based Zack Aura sunk a hat-trick.
