Police and Orange Kenya ladies register wins in KHU weekend matches.


June 29, 2011.. Kenya Hockey Union ladies defending champions Orange ladies cemented their position at the top of the 7 team table with a 4-0 drubbing of Strathmore University Scorpions at City Park, Nairobi.

Rattled by Betty Tioni’s quick goal in the early minutes of the first half, the Scorpions put up a spirited fight, managing to contain their opponents for much of the half.  The first half ended 1 -0 in favor of Orange.

The second half was dominated by Orange with on-form Jackline Mwangi netting two quick goals before veteran Jacqueline Atieno rounded it up with the 4th goal 4 minutes to time.

The weekend belonged to Jackline Mwangi who was celebrating her 32nd birthday.

South Africa’s Pietie Coetzee broke the goal-scoring hockey world record today in South Africa’s 5-5 tie against the U.S.

Coetzee erupted with three goals in the first half against the Americans. Her third, coming mid-half, was the record setting goal. Coetzee’s teammates gave a hearty celebration of the goal and feted Coetzee as she ran down the field with her arms raised.

June 20, 2011… The Kenya national hockey teams convened for two days of training this past weekend. This is after the by the Kenya Hockey Union in the last week.

The training comes in the middle of the 2011 season, which has had to set aside one weekend every month for the national team to convene.

June 20, 2011… Goals from Shelley Russell, Tarryn Bright, Pietee Coetzee, Kim Hubach and Dirkie Chamberlain gave south Africa an emphatic victory against Japan in the second Pool A match of the day (Sunday 19th June) in Dublin in the on going FIH Champions Challenge I.
