Strathmore thrash Sliders as Orange fortunes rise

Winnie Kariuki led Strathmore University Scorpions to a 3 – 0 victory over league regulars Sliders hockey club.

Winnie opened the score sheet in the 10 minute before Laura Gichau extended the lead 12 minutes latter. Carol Njoki wrapped up the scores in the 44th minute, giving Strathmore the unprecedented 3 – 0 win. Sliders lacked in stature and did not offer much resistance.

New penalty corner / short corner rule

The FHI has release a new rule to govern the taking of penalty corners during hockey matches.

The rule has been in use in several FIH affiliate countries and will now be applicable to all hockey matches (tournaments and leagues) of the Kenya Hockey Union effective 21st May 2011.

Festival of Friendship Hockey Tournament

The Festival of Friendship (FoF) presents the FOF Seven-A-Side hockey tournament.

The tournament, to be held at Kenya Hockey Unions’ City Park Stadium, Nairobi on the 29th of May is part of the ongoing Festival of Friendship sporting activities.

All persons and groups of persons are invited to register for this unique sporting activity.

Karate, Police, Navy register crucial wins in weekend hockey ties

May 9, 2011.. With the KHU national womens league taking a break, all eyes were on the mens league this past weekend with table-altering games on the cards.

The weekend’s big match pitted on-form Kenya Police and the KHU mens premier league title pretenders Greensharks in a match played at 4:00 pm at City Park, Nairobi. At stake was the league leadership as well as bragging rights, given that last time the two teams met the game ended in a draw.

With the Kenya Hockey Union womens league taking a break this weekend, all eyes will be on the mens premier and national leagues.

The KHU national league has University of Nairobi (UoN) taking on Parklands on Saturday at 2 pm while the National Youth Service (NYS) welcome the newly created Kenya Navy team on Sunday at 10 am. Kenya Polytechnic entertain Multimedia University at 2 pm. All matches are to be at City Park.

The mens premier league is set for a fiery weekend with all the top teams in action.
