Orange, Strathmore flagged off

Strathmore, Orange Teams ready to represent Kenya

Africa club champions Orange ladies and Kenya Hockey Union mens title defenders Strathmore Gladiators were yesterday presented with the Kenya flag as they prepare to represent Kenya in next weeks Africa Club Championship.

The one week tournament, to be held in Accra, Ghana will pit the winners of each country’s domestic leagues against each other for a battle to be crowned the Kings / queens of Africa.

The presentation ceremony was graced by KHU Chairman Resham Bains, Orange Deputy CEO Jane Karuku, Orange Head of Coporate Communications Angela Mumo, Strathmore Dean Paul Ochieng, Sports Director, amongst other Kenya government Officials.

While presenting the flag to the two teams at the colorful ceremony, the Permanent Secretary Min. of Sports Mr. Joseph Waweru challanged to look at themselves beyond their club levels and start playing as the “Kenya Team”.

Strathmore coach Meshak Senge said his side was prepared and confident and will bring glory to the country. Strathmore is set to be the first ever university side to participate in the tournament.

The games are set to begin 07:00 H Thursday 9th December 2010 at the NHS Field, National Hockey Stadium. Orange plays the second game of the day against Egypts Sharkia, while Strathmore takes on home team YOBE of Ghana at 1500Hrs latter that day.

Men: Yobe, Strathmore, Police, Trustees, Golden Sticks, Niger Stickers
Ladies: Yobe Queens, Heartland, Orange, Sharkia, Extinguishers, Reformers
