Red weekend for Eaglets as Wazalendo bounce back

Quite an interesting weekend it was for Kenya Hockey! What, from City Park to the dirt surface at Nairobi Simba on Saturday and back to the City Park astro-tuff on Sunday! It was a weekend kindled with memories.

First, the Blue Eaglets were back in action in the womens National League for the second straight week this season; with two consecutive matches on Saturday and Sunday. After an impressive display over the previous weekend against Sliders, the Eaglets were to fall to two strong and upcoming teams, loosing six crucial points in the process. It did not help that the two teams were university sides. In an entertaining match played at the Nairobi Simba grounds on Saturday, the Eaglets lost to USIU-A Spartans by 2 goals to 1. The students displayed a well organized game and took their chances, as opposed to the more cautious eaglets.

The eaglets were to loose by a similar margin (on Sunday at City Park) to another well-oiled students team in the form of Strathmore University Scorpions.

Sunday also saw last seasons semi-finalists Wazalendo get their first win of the season against an unexpected team, KCA-U. KCA had been on a steady rise after handing league leaders Kenya Police their first draw and going a head to secure a point against Park road in a match that was theirs to win. The match was a morale booster for Wazalendo after having lost two consecutive matches against Green Sharks and away to Mvita IX at the coast.

Other weekend matches saw Parklands HC battle to a 1 – 1 draw with the University of Nairobi.
