KCA on the rampage as Strathmore maintain good run

After slightly loosing balance and giving a match away to Wazalendo the previous weekend, KCA made sure its presence in the Kenya Hockey scene was felt this past weekend. What, with a convincing 5 – 0 drubbing of league debutants Western Jaguars in their home ground and a 2 – 0 win over the once mighty Kisumu Simba also at home, KCA made pundits who had written them off rethink their stance. KCA joins Kenya Police as the only teams to have made the trip to western Kenya this season and returned with a full six points.

In Nairobi, champions Strathmore University Gladiators were not about to get their foot of the peddle in their quest to be the first team to win and retain the mens premier league trophy since the departure of Armed Forces hockey team. In a well choreographed game, the Gladiators effortlessly made mince meat of the Wazalendo Hockey team, who seemed a distant team from the one that played in last seasons semi-finals. The match ended 3 – 1 in favor of Strathmore.

Earlier in the day Parkroad had caused a major upset after going against all odds to hand Green Sharks its second draw this season. The match, in which Green Sharks was favorites and was expected to use to boost its goal tally, ended in a 2 – 2 draw. The parkroad team displayed an uncharacteristic resilience and thwarted every move created by the title contenders.

The weekend also saw Vikings take on the Strathmore Univ. Scorpions (Ladies) in a tightly contested Kenya Hockey Union national womens league match at City Park. The entertaining but aggressive match ended in a 0 – 0 draw.
